Why a John Cena heel turn won’t happen soon.

If you were to ask someone today if they could name a wrestler in the WWE, chances are the name John Cena would be in their top 5 picks at least. That’s a pretty big indication of just how well-known he is in the wrestling world. Let me reiterate; I said how well-known he is. John Cena has essentially been the franchise player from 2005 to the present. He is the guy that Vince can call in to bring in PPV numbers, regardless of whether the crowd boos or cheers him. Since he has been the face of the company, Cena has portrayed a face character, or contextually the “good guy”. He’s been known as Super Cena; the guy that no matter how outnumbered or outgunned he is, he always seems to pull off the victory. At first, he was endearing to the crowd. Until he wasn’t anymore. Than he began to receive boos from the crowd. Now every time he enters, the response is literally polarizing. A wave of cheers is followed by a wave of boos. Most critics, both official and unofficial, have stated that it’s due to his formulaic booking and character. They have also suggested that in order to revitalize his character, he would need to turn heel, or become the “bad guy”. It’s been successful before. Daniel Bryan and The New Day turning heel ultimately made them more popular and successful later in their respective careers. But that’s not the case with John Cena. The reason why John Cena hasn’t turned heel yet is simple:

THERE IS NO ONE TO REPLACE HIM.

Simple as that. The Internet Wrestling Community and the older generation of wrestling fans are thinking that there are plenty of wrestlers that could take his place. But it’s not about the main event spot or being a company guy that would take losses to Michael Cole, but who the kids look up to. It’s always been about that. John Cena has set an all-time record for most Make-a-Wish foundation wishes granted at over 450 wishes. It’s because although the older generation and the IWC hate that Cena gets preferential booking or that he is overly cheesy, he still inspires the young kids to “Never Give Up”. And it’s that message that Cena wears on his arm that continues to win over the kids in the audience.

In order for WWE to feel comfortable enough to even think about booking a John Cena heel turn, they need someone who will be able to take over that responsibility to the kids. They tried with Roman Reigns, but Reigns has been largely disappointing as a top face. Even worse is the fact that Reigns is not “the guy” to be giving a positive message. He is the silent ass-kicker that he should have been; a man with few words and more punches.

In reality, there was only one person who could have realistically been the catalyst for a John Cena heel turn. And that man was Daniel Bryan. One just needs to research Connor “The Crusher” Michalek to know that Daniel Bryan had the potential to be the guy to replace John Cena as a hero to the kids. Unfortunately, even though Daniel Bryan had that potential, he would prefer a more private life with more time to himself whereas the guy that WWE wants to replace John Cena must be willing to uphold their massive schedule.

When it comes down to it, a John Cena heel turn would be pleasantly surprising and would easily reinvigorate his character. But you shouldn’t count on that to happen. Because at the end of the day, WWE cares about the kids. And they care about how much they can profit off of the kids.

Final Thoughts before Survivor Series

I’m already locked in with my predictions so I’m not going to try and backtrack my way out of them. But rather this is a short blurb of what I feel needs to happen with the booking tonight in order to go forward on the right foot.

MEN’S RAW VS. SMACKDOWN

  • Braun Strowman must not be pinned or submitted
  • Should Chris Jericho attempt to interfere after he is likely eliminated, Luke Harper must neutralize him
  • Aside from Shane McMahon, no other authority figure must interfere
  • Reigns and Rollins’ teamwork must take RAW far until Ambrose disrupts that
  • Each brand champion must eliminate one, but must not be the survivor
  • Bray Wyatt must be booked strong

WOMEN’S RAW VS. SMACKDOWN

  • Like Strowman, Nia Jax must not be pinned or submitted
  • Becky Lynch must go farther than Nikki Bella
  • Dana Brooke and Natalya need to be major factors
  • Bayley must survive

TAG TEAM RAW VS. SMACKDOWN

  • American Alpha, win or lose, must be the final team for Smackdown
  • The Usos must be the ones to turn on their team
  • The New Day must survive
  • Breezango and The Shining Stars must be eliminated early

BRIAN KENDRICK VS. KALISTO

  • Kendrick if he wins, must not win cleanly
    • Baron Corbin must be a factor

THE MIZ VS. SAMI ZAYN

  • The Miz must not win cleanly

GOLDBERG VS. BROCK LESNAR

  • Goldberg must be booked strongly and cannot be manhandled my Lesnar

Survivor Series Redux: Final

INTERCONTINENTAL TITLE: (c) THE MIZ VS. SAMI ZAYN

This is a pleasant surprise, but seems to be the right way to go about this. Ziggler winning the title was a great sight to see, but his reign didn’t go as planned. The narrative of two underdogs facing off against each other also isn’t as enticing as the formulaic heel vs. face story. With Maryse, Kenny, and Mikey at his disposal, Sami Zayn is the clear underdog. And something tells me with this change in opponent, Sami Zayn will not be walking out of Survivor Series as a champion.

PREDICTION: THE MIZ RETAINS

CRUISERWEIGHT TITLE: (c) BRIAN KENDRICK VS. KALISTO

It would have been smarter to allow Sin Cara to pin Brian Kendrick on RAW. This way, it adds to the story of the ramifications to the match. With Kendrick losing to Sin Cara, who can arguably be considered the weaker performer between him and Kalisto, it would add more narrative to Kendrick’s tactics and the match itself. But after thinking more about the pros and cons to the move to Smackdown, Kalisto could conceivably win the title and bring the division to Smackdown. Though RAW may be the bigger show, Smackdown is the show that focuses more on the in-ring work. And that’s where the cruiserweights will inevitably be able to shine more.

PREDICTION: KALISTO WINS THE TITLE

WOMEN RAW VS. SMACKDOWN

Team Raw

  • Charlotte (Captain)
  • Bayley
  • Nia Jax
  • Alicia Fox
  • Sasha Banks
    • Dana Brooke

Team Smackdown

  • Nikki Bella (Captain)
  • Alexa Bliss
  • Carmella
  • Becky Lynch
  • Naomi
    • Natalya

With the recent episodes, this match could be closer than I had originally predicted. Though I say it’s closer, this is still Team RAW’s match to lose. Let’s just get this out of the way and say that Naomi and Alicia Fox are not surviving this match. Nia Jax just demonstrated that she could be counted out to keep her unbeaten streak alive by crashing through the barricade. And something tells me that Nikki Bella and Becky Lynch will be the last women standing for Smackdown. They’ll be able to take out Bayley with a quick roll-up, but they will not prevail.

PREDICTION: CHARLOTTE AND SASHA BANKS ARE THE SURVIVORS

TAG TEAM RAW VS. SMACKDOWN

TEAM RAW

  • The New Day (Captains)
  • Gallows and Anderson
  • Enzo and Big Cass
  • Sheamus and Cesaro
  • The Shining Stars

TEAM SMACKDOWN

  • Heath Slater and Rhyno (Captains)
  • The Hype Bros.
  • American Alpha
  • The Usos
  • Breezango

Well finally they confirmed that if one person from a tag-team is eliminated, their respective partner is eliminated as well. That’s going to save a hell of a lot of time. With Gallows and Anderson claiming that they wouldn’t hesitate to stab on of their teams in the back, I feel like this is a red herring. Team RAW is full of tension while Team Smackdown worked more cohesively as a team. But expect The Usos to turn on team blue and have a hand in the elimination of Slater and Rhyno. This will leave American Alpha alone to fight off team red. Like I’ve been saying, American Alpha’s gutsy performance will elevate their stock.

PREDICTION: THE NEW DAY AND GALLOWS & ANDERSON SURVIVE

TEAM RAW

  • Kevin Owens (Co-captain)
  • Chris Jericho (Co-captain)
  • Roman Reigns
  • Braun Strowman
  • Seth Rollins

TEAM SMACKDOWN

  • AJ Styles (Captain)
  • Dean Ambrose
  • Bray Wyatt
  • Randy Orton
  • Shane McMahon
    • James Ellsworth (mascot)

Undertaker’s appearance has thrown a few doubts over Smackdown pulling off the victory here. His threat is pretty much an invitation to start a feud. And if we are looking at the way RAW ended, it seems as though Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins will be going deep into the match, which is a scary thought for Smackdown as Reigns and Rollins were tag team champions at one point.

Braun Strowman will most likely be eliminated in a way similar to Nia Jax. Kevin Owens will leave Jericho, causing both eliminations. But the impeccable teaming of Rollins and Reigns will pull through for the most part. But I stand by prediction still. Bray Wyatt has Luke Harper and Randy Orton at his disposal and WWE would be stupid to not exploit that. It doesn’t matter if Orton is eliminated, it is inevitable that he will return and Luke Harper’s appearance will distract whoever remains to allow Bray Wyatt to execute Sister Abigail.

PREDICTION: BRAY WYATT IS THE SOLE SURVIVOR

Survivor Series Redux Pt. 4

So many swerves. So many changes. This shakes up Survivor Series on paper. Let’s get started shall we?

TEAM RAW

  • Kevin Owens (Co-captain)
  • Chris Jericho (Co-captain)
  • Roman Reigns
  • Braun Strowman
  • Seth Rollins

TEAM SMACKDOWN

  • AJ Styles (Captain)
  • Dean Ambrose
  • Bray Wyatt
  • Randy Orton
  • Shane McMahon
    • James Ellsworth (mascot)

Baron Corbin’s apparent leg injury and the inclusion of Shane McMahon and James Ellsworth shakes things up quite a bit. I still stand by my prediction of Team Smackdown, and with Ellsworth’s inclusion allows for either Ambrose, Styles, or both to be eliminated. Shane McMahon will most likely be booked to somehow be a part of Braun Strowman’s elimination, but it won’t and shouldn’t be by pinfall or submission. Count on the numbers game from the Wyatt’s to be the deciding factor in Team Smackdown.

PREDICTION: BRAY WYATT IS THE SOLE SURVIVOR

*With the women’s roster complete and no significant changes in their story arc, I’m going to skip it.

PREDICTION: CHARLOTTE AND SASHA BANKS ARE THE SURVIVORS

TEAM RAW

  • The New Day (Captains)
  • Gallows and Anderson
  • Enzo and Big Cass
  • Sheamus and Cesaro
  • The Shining Stars

TEAM SMACKDOWN

  • Heath Slater and Rhyno (Captains)
  • The Hype Bros.
  • American Alpha
  • The Usos
  • Breezango

No real change from the last redux. Just an update on Team Smackdown’s roster.

PREDICTION: GALLOWS AND ANDERSON RE-ESTABLISH CREDIBILITY

CRUISERWEIGHT TITLE: (c) BRIAN KENDRICK VS. KALISTO

This match has a lot of ramifications. If Kalisto wins, not only will he be the cruiserweight champion, but he’ll be responsible for the entire cruiserweight division moving to Smackdown. That is a heavy stipulation for someone who is returning from injury. While Kalisto being in the cruiserweight division makes more sense, he will not win. Not only is RAW the longer show, but the cruiserweight division is already crowded and placing them on a shorter show relegates them to multiple wrestler matches that will most likely be rushed.

PREDICTION: KENDRICK RETAINS; CONTINUES FEUD WITH TJ PERKINS

INTERCONTINENTAL TITLE: (c) DOLPH ZIGGLER VS. SAMI ZAYN

With Sami Zayn defeating Rusev, he is now going to face off against Dolph Ziggler for the Intercontinental title. With Miz facing off against Dolph Ziggler on the 900th episode of Smackdown and the cruiserweight division on the line, titles and wrestlers could be changing brands. While the cruiserweights will be staying on RAW with Kendrick retaining, Sami Zayn will become champion. I’m betting on Ziggler retaining next week and a scorned Miz interfering and costing Ziggler the title due to being cut from Survivor Series. Stephanie McMahon will be elated to have another title in RAW until Zayn swerves RAW and joins Smackdown due to Stephanie’s comments towards him this past RAW.

PREDICTION: SAMI ZAYN WINS TITLE; JUMPS TO SMACKDOWN

Survivor Series Redux Pt. 3

Where I was near perfect selecting the RAW roster, I was way off with the RAW women’s team and the mystery pick for RAW’s tag team. You can’t win them all I guess.

The Seth Rollins selection was never in question. Next.

The Sasha Banks exclusion for me was silly and I’ll admit that. But Alicia Fox’s inclusion I did not see coming. But in hindsight this makes sense. With Natalya watching intently on the side, Dana Brooke will become the equalizer for team RAW. But that also leaves Emmalina in question. When will she debut? The perfect time would have been before Survivor Series in order to give her some traction.

The inclusion of The Shining Stars was also an obvious choice as they are an actual tag team and The Golden Truth have zero momentum.

With the new selections set here’s where we stand:

TEAM RAW:

  • Kevin Owens (Co-captain)
  • Chris Jericho (Co-captain)
  • Roman Reigns
  • Braun Strowman
  • Seth Rollins

TEAM SMACKDOWN:

  • AJ Styles (Captain)
  • Dean Ambrose
  • Baron Corbin
  • Bray Wyatt
  • Randy Orton

This match is a chance for Strowman and Corbin to break out. A strong performance here from both would raise their stock, especially with Corbin being rumored to feud with John Cena. The real intrigue here is who will be the sole survivor. This match is too star-studded to assume that there will be more than one survivor. But as always, I stand by my prediction of a Smackdown victory with Wyatt as the survivor. Simply because he has Luke Harper and Randy Orton at his disposal. Orton has a history of being a sole survivor, but something tells me he’ll be eliminated, but the viper will strike one more time when it really matters deep into the match. And with Rollins feuding with The Authority, he’s bound to turn on Jericho.

PREDICTION: BRAY WYATT IS THE SOLE SURVIVOR

TEAM RAW

  • Charlotte (Captain)
  • Bayley
  • Nia Jax
  • Alicia Fox
  • Sasha Banks
    • With Dana Brooke

TEAM SMACKDOWN

  • Nikki Bella (Captain)
  • Becky Lynch
  • Alexa Bliss
  • Carmella
  • Naomi
    • With Coach Natalya

With my bottom two picks as part of RAW, the dynamic changes drastically. Bayley and Sasha have beef with Charlotte and Dana Brooke. Alicia Fox has beef with Nia Jax. Yet despite this, Team RAW will still be victorious here. Just different survivors. Why? Because if you compare Team RAW to Team Smackdown, the ladies of the blue brand are just outmatched. The main thing here is the history with Charlotte and Sasha. There have been rumors floating around of Bayley being booked to take the title off of Sasha. Sasha will need momentum going into the title match that will end with her breaking Charlotte’s streak of PPV wins. Nia Jax will be eliminated due to shenanigans with Alicia Fox. But she will not be pinned or submitted to keep her booking strong. This will give Smackdown a slightly better chance, but in the end, RAW has the best two women on the main roster, and that is too much to overcome.

PREDICTION: CHARLOTTE AND SASHA BANKS ARE THE SURVIVORS

TEAM RAW

  • The New Day (Captains)
  • Gallows and Anderson
  • Enzo and Big Cass
  • Sheamus and Cesaro
  • The Shining Stars

TEAM SMACKDOWN

  • Heath Slater and Rhyno (Captains)
  • The Hype Bros.
  • American Alpha
  • The Usos
  • TBA

With either The Vaudevillians or Breezango taking that final spot, this will still be a team RAW victory. Further thought suggests that Gallows and Anderson will indeed stab Team RAW in the back. But Team RAW will still prevail. Possibly without The New Day and I’m going to go with an interesting prediction here. The Shining Stars will fall victim to Heath Slater and Rhyno, but Smackdown will fall one-by-one until it’s the Usos and American Alpha. The Usos will unsurprisingly turn on American Alpha and leave them to the RAW wolves. But this is where American Alpha shines. Their gutsy performance sees them eliminate Enzo and Big Cass first, than a questionable miscommunication between Anderson and Gallows and The New Day will result in an elimination for The New Day. Sheamus and Cesaro’s tension will also allow Gable to pull off a quick roll-up, but Gallows and Anderson will take advantage of the chaos and kill the magic for Team Smackdown.

PREDICTION: GALLOWS AND ANDERSON RE-ESTABLISH CREDIBILITY

5 and 5: Useless and Useful Alumni

DISCLAIMER:

I cannot stress this enough. When I use the term “useless”, it’s not a reflection on the wrestler themselves. The WWE machine has a plan for how they want to book things and the wrestler in question may not fit their plans. This has absolutely nothing to do with what the wrestler has to offer in terms of in-ring skill and character, but strictly with working around the “New Era” talent that they are trying to push. And although some of these wrestlers may be great as a backstage presence, this 5 and 5 list is looking primarily as an in-ring, on-screen performer. So with that being said, here we go!

Via cagesideseats.com

USELESS: CHRIS MASTERS

The factor that made Chris Masters a draw during his first run with WWE was his physique. That’s not even a question. The man looked like he was chiseled out of a granite boulder by Michelangelo. But that was really all he had going for him. He wasn’t particularly talented on the mic and his in-ring work was choppy. After the new wellness policy was implemented, he also lost some of his size as well. If he were to return, WWE could try and use his real life story of ripping a tree from the ground to save his mother. But there are enough “super-heroes” in the WWE.

Via wrestlingrumors.net

USEFUL: CARLITO

Carlito still has the potential to be a major factor in the WWE. As a main eventer? Most likely not. As a mid-card champion? Most likely. As a way to bring relevance back to his family. Yes. His brother and cousin, Primo and Epico, have been floundering around trying to find their place on the roster. They have been a generic tag-team, matadors, and now time share agents. Neither one of them are particularly magnetic on the mic. But Carlito is. He has a way of coming off as arrogant as a heel or snarky and sarcastic as a face. Carlito’s return would allow him to raise The Shining Stars’ relevance as a tag-team. And for Carlito, depending on the relationship status between him and WWE, can enter a redemption story line that is sure to be a great feel good story.

USELESS: CRYME TYME

It’s a shame that Cryme Tyme never got the proper push that they should have had, especially when they were linked to John Cena during his feud with JBL. Both of them are capable workers and their presence was always felt. But it’s simple why Cryme Tyme would be useless in the WWE; their gimmick. With social tensions at a high, especially for the past few months, bringing in a tag-team with a name like theirs portraying an over-the-top parody of thugs is not a good idea. Altering their character would be a disastrous move, especially since they are well known for their current team and gimmick. Changing them to braggadocio athletes would make them too similar to The Primetime Players, with whom they have a little beef with. Ultimately, although WWE needs to expand on credible tag teams, Cryme Tyme is not one of those teams.

Image result for shawn daivari
Via wikipedia.org

USEFUL: SHAWN DAIVARI

Admittedly an underutilized and underrated wrestler, Shawn Daivari never really gained any traction during this time in WWE. Being linked to Kurt Angle gave him great exposure and being linked to The Great Khali allowed him to showcase just how great he is on the mic. But he unfortunately fell victim to unsure booking and never really got to showcase what he can really do. With his brother competing in the cruiserweight division, Shawn Daivari already has a possible connection that could see him being brought back. And in all honesty, although his brother Ariya is a talented wrestler, the cruiserweight division is filled with many more interesting and memorable personalities. Joining the Daivari brothers together would be a great new dynamic to any of the brand’s cruiserweight division. Just leave the “evil foreigner” gimmick at the door.

Via onlineworldofwrestling.com

USELESS: KELLY KELLY

Kelly Kelly may have been one of the more popular divas during her run, but when it all boils down to it, she was not a good wrestler. Granted she was employed during a time where WWE still referred to their women’s division as “Divas” in which the bulk of this division were athletic models, her in-ring work never really quite shaped up. Despite winning the Divas title, Kelly Kelly would not be able to offer the backstage wisdom to help guide the next generation of hopeful women, especially with Mickie James back in the fold and with Lita and Sara Del Rey already with the company. Kelly Kelly’s return would expose the skill gap between the different generations of women’s wrestling.

Image result for beth phoenix
Via wwe.com

USEFUL: BETH PHOENIX

Out of all of the useful picks on this list, Beth Phoenix is the only one where giving her a title run would be just the thing she needs to make the women’s division stronger, both literally and figuratively. Pitting her against the “New Era” talents would be a great way to further put them over. And with a title victory for the Glamazon, it adds a layer of depth for the “New Era” and Phoenix’s own fortitude. What are the odds of her coming back to wrestling? Slim to none now that she has started a family with WWE Hall of Famer Edge. But if she returns, she will undoubtedly shake up the pecking order in the women’s division.

USELESS: TOMMY DREAMER

If you are involved in wrestling, whether you yourself are a wrestler or a backstage personnel or a fan, and you don’t have respect for Tommy Dreamer than you might need a few weapon shots to the body. With that being said, every time Tommy Dreamer shows up on WWE programs, the “ECW” chants grow quieter and quieter. It’s a sad thing to think about as Tommy Dreamer, the heart and soul of ECW, has become a relic of the past. At 45-years-old, his age shows every time he enters the ring. A few months ago, he stated that he was no longer willing to take a chokeslam bump again. There was no botch, just his war-torn body giving out. This is an indication that there really may not be much he can do or is willing to take should he return. Although there are other guys his age still wrestling, beating someone like Tommy Dreamer doesn’t exactly have the same face value as beating someone like Kurt Angle, Triple H, or The Undertaker. He has miles of experience that could help the aspiring brawlers of the “New Era”, but he has his own wrestling promotion to run and he most likely wants it to continue to run.

USEFUL: MONTEL VONTAVIOUS PORTER

While creating this post, I went back-and-forth on this pick for a while. It’s not a reflection on MVP himself. The ring work he produced was always solid and his mic work his great. His gimmick is what sells him the most. That and his wrestling attire. The “Power Ranger” chants were funny. The high-paid ballin’ superstar was always able to sell that his character thought he was larger than life. Adding him back to the roster would shake-up the mid-card. More importantly, MVP would be the best choice to go with in terms as a mentor to Apollo Crews, who has been floundering since his call-up from NXT. MVP’s return could give Crews a direction.

Image result for rob van dam
Via dailystar.co.uk

USELESS: ROB VAN DAM

Like Tommy Dreamer, beating Rob Van Dam doesn’t exactly have the same value of beating guys like Triple H, The Undertaker, and Kurt Angle. Sure he beat John Cena to become WWE champion and became the ECW champion by default, making him the only person to simultaneously hold the ECW and WWE world title. But if you really looked at the situation, WWE was trying to revive the ECW brand and wanted someone who the WWE universe knew and that the ECW universe would respect. Rob Van Dam was the most marketable in WWE’s eyes, though this isn’t saying that he didn’t deserve that spot. Van Dam returning would only relegate him back to the mid-card with meaningless wins and damaging losses.

Image result for kurt angle
Via sportskeeda.com

USEFUL: KURT ANGLE

Until he finally shows up on WWE programming and announces his intent to wrestle, he will always be one lists like these. Kurt Angle may be the most valuable wrestler that’s not in the WWE at this moment. He has been in the business for close to 20 years and has won major titles everywhere he’s been. He’s also conquered The Conqueror not once, not twice, but three times. Cleanly. Even submitting him. Yes, Brock Lesnar has defeated Angle twice and one of those times was a grueling and fantastic 60-minute Iron Man match, but the fact the Angle has the most clean victories over Lesnar is enough for a feud. Angle, being the consummate wrestler, would also be a great addition to the roster in terms of boosting star power and allowing two generations of wrestlers to collide.

What if?: Broken Matt Hardy’s challenge

To say Matt Hardy has had a career resurgence is an understatement. As Team Extreme, Matt Hardy was able to ascend to stardom. But once the Hardy’s went their separate ways, it was clear that Jeff Hardy was the more popular of the two. Just look at how they were both booked during their stints in WWE. It seemed as though Matt was going to be another one of those wrestlers who would do anything for attention. His career seemed to be winding down, even after winning the TNA World Heavyweight Championship. His reign just didn’t seem to click. And then he unveiled what would be his masterpiece today. Matt Hardy would become “Broken”. He was disheveled. He spoke with a strange accent. His words matched those of a rambling, crazy man. With his “Broken” character came with it Matt Hardy’s relevance in professional wrestling. For once, he is outshining Jeff Hardy, who is now Brother Nero. That’s not to say Jeff Hardy isn’t doing well as he now has another facet of his already multiple personalities.

The masterpieces that are “The Final Deletion” and “Delete or Decay” are as polarizing as “Broken” Matt Hardy; it’s either you love it or hate it. There’s no in-between. In fact, “The Final Deletion” was so wildly successful that WWE decided to deliver their own version called “The Wyatt’s Compound”. Matt Hardy reacted, calling out Bray Wyatt on Twitter, which engaged in a brief Twitter feud between a broken man and an eater of worlds. But this engagement sparked a fantasy match people would’ve love to see.

What if Bray Wyatt and “Broken” Matt Hardy fought?

With TNA continuing to sink, WWE would undoubtedly have taken control of this and it’s obvious that it would be in the same vein of “The Final Deletion”. Though WWE will be funding this match, they will need to give creative control to both Hardy and Wyatt, but more specifically Hardy. This concept is his mastermind. WWE wasn’t able to produce the same magic with their “Wyatt Compound” match.

Image result for Bray wyatt vs matt hardy
via blacksportsonline.com

As for the booking of the match itself, it will be an all-out affair. On Hardy’s side he has Brother Nero, his wife Reby Sky, his groundskeeper Senor Benjamin, and Vanguard 1. However, on Wyatt’s side, he would have Luke Harper and Erick Rowan and the newly allied Randy Orton. On top of that, something tells me that if this match were to happen, this would be the grand debut of Sister Abigail. It would be a grandiose tale, but the only way to go with this is a Wyatt victory. Though Hardy may have been the brainchild of this match and has been on a roll as of late, he does not need to win in order to maintain his momentum. The beauty of “Broken” Matt Hardy is that he is supposed to be over-the-top. The value of his gimmick doesn’t hinge on whether or not he is able to win the feud, but rather if he is able to act accordingly to the aftermath of the match. Wyatt on the other hand must win the match in order to maintain whatever credibility he has. Losing to someone that is essentially an over-the-top version of you would destroy Wyatt’s stock. There is no promo that would rebuild his aura; no victory that would erase this loss. Like Kane and The Undertaker, Hardy will be just fine losing in a type of match that he essentially created and has the right to challenge other people, which leads us to the next question:

What if The New Day and The Young Bucks answered the challenge?

download

The Bray Wyatt vs. Matt Hardy fight would definitely be in a “Delete” match. This triple threat match, however, would take place in a ring without the bells and whistles. The New Day are entertaining enough to hold their own on-screen, but The Young Bucks aren’t the type of team to be featured in those matches. Looking at each team, The Young Bucks are solely at a numbers disadvantage with there being three members of The New Day and Reby Sky most likely valeting for The Broken Hardy’s. That’s not to say that The Young Bucks are outclassed. Comparing all three teams, The Young Bucks have the strongest team chemistry simply for the fact that they have always been a tag team whereas The New Day and The Broken Hardy’s are all fully capable of branching out on their own and have their own distinctive style of wrestling.

With the match itself, there are so many different ways this match can be booked. Since they are all champions in their respective companies, there’s a slim possibility that it can be a TLC Match, but there’s the issue of the champions losing their belts to someone outside of the company. And a TLC match without anything on the line to climb a ladder for is a waste of time. This match could also be a standard triple threat match, but that leaves a whole bunch of shenanigans like stealing wins, something that would be unsatisfactory to the crowd. This match needs to be a triple threat elimination match. It’s not about beating one team, but outlasting the other two teams. It’s the only way to truly solidify which team is the superior.

The match itself would contain some high-risk spots and a lot of back-and-forth action with a number of close falls. However, The Young Bucks will have the unfortunate honor of being the first team eliminated by the Broken Hardy’s. The Young Bucks being eliminated first has nothing to do with how they are seen or the amount of accolades they have gained, but rather because of the numbers game. Having to fend off an extra New Day member as well as Reby Sky will eventually take its toll on The Young Bucks, leading to a valiant but expected elimination. This brings things down to The Broken Hardy’s and The New Day.

This phase of the match will feature more near-falls than spots, but will undoubtedly come down to Matt Hardy and Reby Ski and Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods as Brother Nero would most likely have sacrificed himself to Swanton Bomb Big E through a table. Reby and Woods would argue, leading to Reby slapping and low blowing Woods and distracting Kingston. Hardy would hit Twist of Fate, but at the last second, Big E would break up the pin. With Brother Nero still incapacitated, Hardy will valiantly fight off Big E until Woods comes through with Francesca 3, leading to The Big Ending and a New Day victory. The New Day are the longest reigning tag-team champs for a reason and that’s because they not only know how to utilize their third teammate, but simply because when it comes down to it, Woods can get more involved in the match. But because this is all speculation, this opinion can only be taken at face value. Unless…

What if TNA completely sink and The Broken Hardy’s make their way back to WWE?

Considering the roll that The Broken Hardy’s gimmick is on, having them re-sign with the WWE would be a steal. With the Hardy’s back in WWE, they will have gained instant momentum due to their past history in the WWE. And with Matt Hardy back in WWE, we can actually get matches against Bray Wyatt. But not The New Day. WWE tends to protect their home-grown talent. Don’t believe me? Compare the bookings of AJ Styles, Sasha Banks, Dean Ambrose, or Cesaro to John Cena, Nikki Bella, Charlotte, and Roman Reigns. The Hardy’s would be drafted straight to Smackdown to avoid any potential clash with The New Day. It would also be a challenge for WWE creative, who also have an alleged history with disregarding creative angles from wrestlers in favor of their own. If The Broken Hardy’s were to return to WWE, the WWE universe should not be surprised if they start off hot but end up splitting with Jeff Hardy regaining his namesake and going on to be booked more successfully. It’s the feel good story that WWE will want to go with.
